Pamela Lyndon Travers (August the 9th 1899 - April the 23rd 1996)
Dear Mrs. Travers,
Even though you are no longer with us, I like to think that you are.
A few months ago, I was outside in our garden at night and I looked up at the sky, as always. Because of your Mary Poppins, I’ve always been fascinated by stars. I love watching them. It’s as if Mary Poppins is looking down at me from up there. But then, somehow, I decided to name the brightest star after you. So each time I’m outside at night, I wish you a good night. Because I know how much you loved stars.
You’ve given me the greatest gift someone could ever give, Mary Poppins. I’m so incredibly thankful that you’ve shared her with the world and with me. Words can not possibly convey what she means to me.
She saved me. She saves me every day.
At my lowest points, she flies into my head, calms me down and reminds me that I’m not alone.
No matter how scared I am, how much I’m convinced that no one will ever love me, I know I’ll always have her.
I know I can say that without her, I wouldn’t have gotten through these last 2 years.
She is my life, my everything. And I’m so incredibly grateful.
Thank you for everything. Thank you for saving me.
I miss you.
And I love you.
(P.S.: if I ever somehow get my hands on a time machine, I’ll be sure to travel back to August the 27th, 1964, ask you very politely for signature in my own copy of Mary Poppins and I’ll somehow place a pinecone on Walt Disney’s seat and make sure you see it when he goes to sit down. Then you’d have your little revenge. :))
